Digital X-ray

There is generally no preparation required for general x-rays, this includes no need to make an appointment. We may sometimes ask you to change into a gown and remove all jewelery from the areas that we are imaging.

Ultrasound

When it comes to Ultrasound Examinations, preparation is the key! We will explain the preparation required when the booking is made, but just incase we have written it all down.

ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND: Fast for 6hrs, this includes nothing to eat drink or smoke. You can have sips of water as required or if you need to take any medications.

FEMALE PELVIC ULTRASOUND: 1.5hrs prior to your examination time, empty your bladder. Then, immediately start drinking 1 - 1.5L of water, this should be done over a half hour period. Hold your bladder until the examination.

RENAL (MALE OR FEMALE): 6 hr fast as for abdominal scan above, fill bladder as for female pelvis above.

PREGNANCY/OBSTETRIC SCANS: 1.5 hrs prior to your examination empty your bladder. Immediately drink 1L of water, this should be finished within half an hour. Hold your bladder until the examination.

CT (Computed tomography)

For some CT abdominal examinations you are required to fast for 4 hours and make sure you are well hydrated.
